Teacher's Corner

Let's just face it. Teachers are busy. It is a profession that is not really understood by those who are not either in it or close to it. I did not really understand what teachers really did until I started working at an elementary school.

Initially I was working part time with an aftercare program, helping the students with homework. Just trying to answer questions that the students had or making sure that they were getting their work done gave me a very small peek into what teachers go through on an everyday basis.

Eventually, I became a substitute teacher and then a teaching assistant working in the RTI program. Things really hit home for me then! A typical day starts like this: Arrive around 7am and or 7:30am. Prepare your classroom for the start of the day, get morning work started, collect homework, then transition to other classwork or change classes if teaching older students. During the course of the day you may deal with a student (or more) who is not having a great day, in the midst of that, trying to keep the rest of the other students attention. Then comes lunch, recess, more classwork, and dismissal. Oh, and did I forget to mention that teachers don't get breaks like the the rest of other professionals? So no bathroom breaks, no real lunch hours and when it is quitting time, they are still hard at work, grading papers and preparing for the next day. All the while trying to keep up with ever changing standards. Teachers wear many hats. They are all at once, teacher, counselor, therapist, referee and sometimes parent.

I say all of this because if any profession has little time it's teachers! By the time they get home, making dinner would seem like a chore and going out shopping sometimes is not in the cards.

Well, here are some ideas that may help. Instead of take out or loading up on the frozen foods, here is a recipe that is not only easy, but versatile! Almost a weeks worth of meals with very little effort!

Shopping can be a challenge as well. I am very happy to say that Avon has stepped up it's fashion line. Here are some pieces that are fashion forward and comfortable as well!

Not sure of your size? No worries!

Teachers have a very important job, educating our youth. Helping them to save time and money is just a small way of saying: Thank you!
