October, breast cancer awareness month. The month where survivors, thrivers, and supporters rally to raise awareness of a disease that has plagued women and men for many years.
Earlier this spring, I was one of many women who was diagnosed with breast cancer. You are never prepared to hear the "C" word. Like many, I always thought: "It could never happen to me". Well it did. But I was fortunate. It was caught extremely early. Thanks to keeping my mammogram appointment (thanks to COVID-19, many women cancelled or rescheduled, their appointments), my doctor noticed that my results were not normal. I then had to get a biopsy. Again, I thought, it will come back benign and that will be that. Well, it did not come back benign, but it did not spread either. Mixed blessing. Things got rolling from there. My medical team acted quickly. I was soon scheduled for surgery, a lumpectomy, not a full mastectomy, thank God. And because it was caught early, I only had to do radiation treatments, not chemo. Though my ordeal was not a walk in the park, it was a lot easier than many other women who were not as fortunate as I was to get the early diagnoses that I did. If you take nothing else away from this blog post, then please just remember this: Early detection is key!!! Get your mammogram!!! I cannot stress this enough! It made my cancer journey a lot smoother than it could have been.
So that is my story. I had the support of my family and friends and they helped me through. Some women are not so lucky and they need the support of others when they are unable to tap into friends and family. I am proud to say that I represent a company that has helped in that area. They not only raise awareness by helping to raise funds as well as aid and assist in research, care and support for those afflicted with this awful disease. The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade has contributed more than $800 million to breast cancer causes, educated 180 million women about breast health and funded breast health screenings for nearly 20 million women. Avon is the first ever National Presenting Sponsor for American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events.
One way that we partner with the American Cancer Society are our Pink Products.
If you love to shop and love to support a wonderful cause, then you are in the right place! Check out the Pink Products by clicking here. Also, Avon is hosting a Live Pink Party on October 12th at 4pm. Just click on the image below to register.
*Avon will contribute 15% of the sales prices of Pink Hope fundraising products up to $700,000 in 2021 to American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer®. The American Cancer Society does not endorse any product or service.
Another way that Avon supports the cause is by the Making Strides events. They are walks that are held all across the country. Participants are either part of teams or as an individual. I've joined the Myrtle Beach event. See how these events supports the thrivers, survivors and their care givers.
If you would like to support it and help me to reach my goal of raising $100, here is the link: http://main.acsevents.org/goto/tfisher
This October is very special for me. I am fortunate that I have survived breast cancer. Hopefully with partnerships like Avon with the American Cancer Society, the survivors will out number the ones who lost the battle.
